Grantsboro is known as the “Crossroads of Pamlico County”. Nestled in the heart of our county, Grantsboro is our area’s business and residential hub and has been since the early 1900’s. Grantsboro was named after William Grant, a native of New York. Mr. Grant came here as a peddler around 1890 carrying a pack on his back. He settled down, built a store then married a local young lady. The area became known as “Grantsboro.”
Grantsboro became an incorporated town in 1997 and had the first stop light in the county. Today, Grantsboro is a thriving town which boasts a school, Chamber of Commerce, History Museum, Fire Department and several grocery markets.
Since its earliest years, Grantsboro has enjoyed growth as a residential area. The hamlet of Grantsboro, well known for its friendly people, local churches and civic organizations, is proud to be the home of the Pamlico County Visitor’s Center. Grantsboro offers great appeal because of its proximity to the Neuse and Bay Rivers, the North Carolina Ferry System and the Pamlico Sound.
